If you have a dog that tears through your house, jumps over furniture, and wants to go out running every chance he gets, you just may have an athlete primed for doggie sports training! There are plenty of dog sports to get your best friend involved in, for fun or competition, and you can teach the basics in your own backyard. But, as we all know, half the fun of playing a sport is hanging out with the team. If you can find a dog club or organization in your area that provides training and promotes the dog sport, you and your dog will get to know other people and dogs, and get the thrill of being part of the dog sports world.
Before you go to a sports club or dog training center, make sure your dog has learned basic obedience, can walk on a leash properly, and has been well-socialized around people and other dogs. No one will have fun if your dog goes berserk! And, before really getting immersed in sports training, have your veterinarian check over your dog to make sure he’s healthy enough, and old or young enough, to participate safely.
