Keep Your Cats Safe on Halloween

Black Cats Need Extra Protection on Halloween Night

Keep Your Cats Safe on Halloween

Although most people don’t actually associate a black cat with witchcraft or bad luck these days, any cat can become the victim of thoughtless or even cruel pranks as Halloween approaches. As much fun as Halloween is to people, it can be terrifying to a cat – especially a black cat. To make sure your kitty doesn’t get spooked or become a victim, take a few simple steps to keep your cat safe.

Extra safety for black cats on Halloween

If you have a black cat, be sure to keep him inside during the entire Halloween season. To some people, he’s a spooky Halloween cat, and that could mean theft or worse. If your black cat has to go out, use a cat safety collar and leash, especially on the days just before and during Halloween. Cats of other colors should be watched closely if they go outside. Make sure your cat is safely inside before nightfall on Halloween night.

Keep your cat safe from trick-or-treaters

If you open your door to trick-or-treaters, make sure your cat is safely contained in a comfortable room with food, water and a litter box. Put a sign on the door or tape over the doorknob to remind family members that the cat is safe inside and not to let him out. Even the friendliest of cats can become frightened by the constant barrage of people at the door in strange Halloween costumes. Your cat could be traumatized at the very least, or at worst, bolt outside and run off terrified.
