Pet-Friendly, Dog-Loving Hotels & Inns

There are literally tens of thousands of hotels, motels, inns and bed & breakfasts across the country that promote themselves as being pet friendly.

However, not every hotel defines “pet friendly” the same way. “Pet friendly” has become the standard term for a place that allows pets, but it can mean anything from “We’ll tolerate your pet, if we must” all the way to “We love your pet! Let us pamper him!” It would be great if listings were a little more accurately defined as pet tolerant, pet friendly or pet loving. Until that happens, it's up to you to do a little investigating before you show up at the front desk with your wet-nosed travel partner.

We think, to be truly pet friendly, a hotel or inn should welcome pets in ways that makes your stay with your dog easier, such as providing a crate or food and water bowls, and a convenient place to walk your dog.

We’ve found some places that go way beyond pet friendly to pet loving. Some hotels, resorts and B&Bs truly welcome dogs and specifically cater to them. (Some cater to cats too, though kitties aren’t usually the traveling kind.)
