Weimaraner
This breed makes an excellent companion, as they are all-round dogs that love family life. They are friendly, intelligent and energetic, and they make excellent guard dogs. If they are properly trained when young, they will get along well with other animals in the household, although they do not like strange dogs. Because of their dominance, they are not recommended for first time dog owners.

Weimaraner
The exact origins of this breed are unknown, although a Weimaraner-type dog appeared in a Van Dyck painting from the early 1600’s. It is believed that the breed is a cross between the German Short-Haired Pointer, the Bloodhound and various Schweisshund breeds. The breed takes its name from the Grand Duke of Weimar and was once used to hunt wolves, wildcats, deer, mountain lions and bears. When big game disappeared from Europe by the late 1800’s, Weimaraners became a rarity. However, hunters began using them as bird dogs and they became popular once again.
