Scottish Deerhound
The Deerhound is a gentle, intelligent, friendly dog. They get along well with children, but they do not make particularly good guard dogs, as they don’t bark a lot. Most Deerhounds still have a very strong hunting instinct, so early introduction to other household pets, especially cats, is necessary.

Scottish Deerhound
Shaggy-haired hounds have been known to exist in Scotland before the 16th century. When these hunting dogs were used in the Scottish Highlands, they were at a disadvantage because of their short coats. They were probably crossed with native hairy dogs to get the Deerhound. They were used by the Scottish chieftains to hunt deer, so they had to be strong enough to pull a stag to the ground.
