Rhodesian Ridgeback
The Ridgeback is a powerful, large and bold dog. With their dignified and gentlemanly character, they make an excellent family dog. They can be quite stubborn, so you should let them know at an early age who the leader of the pack is. Although quite calm and confident at home, they are very wary of strangers. This is not the ideal breed for the novice owner.

Rhodesian Ridgeback
Records show that the Hottentots of South Africa used ridge-backed dogs as hunters and companions as far back as the 15th century. They were bred as big game hunters and were used to track and trap the prey, but not to attack. In the 1800’s, European settlers bred these dogs to their own Mastiffs and scent hounds, giving rise to the Ridgeback we know today. Nowadays, these dogs are used as guard dogs and companions rather than hunters.
