Alaskan Malamute
In Northwestern Alaska, a tribe of Inuit, called the Mahlemuts, developed this breed for hauling heavy loads in harsh weather and assisting with hunting. Malamutes are believed to have contributed to the polar expeditions of Perry, Cook and Byrd.
